The Challenge

Nomad Coffee roasted some of the best beans in the region, but you'd never know it from the shelf. Their packaging used the same beige bag across every origin, with tiny type that made it nearly impossible for a new customer to tell one blend from another. Retailers were hesitant to give them more shelf space because the product simply didn't sell itself visually, no matter how good the coffee tasted in the cup.

Our Approach

We treated packaging as the primary storytelling tool. Each origin got its own color in a system bold enough to read from across an aisle, paired with a redesigned logo mark that felt equally at home on a bag, a cafe awning, or a delivery van. Label copy was rewritten from scratch to lead with flavor notes and origin story instead of dry technical specs, giving customers a reason to pick up the bag and read further. We prototyped physical mockups early and tested them directly in two partner cafes before finalizing the system.

The Result

The new packaging gave Nomad a shelf presence that finally matched the quality of the coffee inside. Within the first quarter after relaunch, Nomad expanded into three new retail partners who had previously passed on carrying the line, citing the redesign directly as the reason they reconsidered.
